MALE PRETENDS TO BE ASLEEP WHILE EVADING COPS
A Cumberland County deputy was patrolling the area of Vandever Road when they observed a black vehicle pull into a residence at a high rate of speed. As the deputy had been notified the license plate of the vehicle was reported stolen, the suspect drove the vehicle through a gate that was blocking the driveway, jumped out of the vehicle, and ran inside the residence.
The deputy later found the male, identified as 30-year-old Robert Howard hiding in a bed pretending to be asleep. Once the deputy talked to Robert, he allegedly told deputies that he did not mean to run from the deputies, that he just wanted the car in the gate so it wouldn’t get towed. He also stated he had just bought the vehicle and did not know the license plate was stolen. A check through dispatch also confirmed that his driver’s license had been revoked.
Robert Howard was charged with Evading Arrest, Theft of Property, and Driving on Revoked/Suspended License. His bond was set at $3,500.
