MAN ARRESTED AT BIRCHWOOD APARTMENTS FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

On Saturday, Lieutenant Dustin Lester of the Crossville Police Department responded to Birchwood apartments for a physical domestic situation where the woman and man had been separated. Upon arriving, Lieutenant Lester made contact with the defendant identified as Ryan Jones. He was looking down from the top left window of the residence and said he wanted to file a complaint.

The Lieutenant then went into the stairwell of the building and made contact with the female complainant and observed that she was bloody from the chest up and suffering from head trauma. She said that she was held down and beaten repeatedly.

Lieutenant Lester then went upstairs and began directing officers to set up a perimeter, and began talking with Jones from outside the residence to get him to open the door, but Jones said that he wasn’t coming out and that the officers would have to get a search warrant.

Officers began clearing out residents from the apartment building for safety concerns and Sergeant Massey was asked to go get a door ram, flashbang, and chemical agents from impound.

After being unable to open the door using the keys without giving up his position, the lieutenant decided to deploy the ram and follow through with a flashbang.

A K9 unit was able to locate Jones in the back left bedroom and he was taken from his chair and placed under arrest without incident.

Later, the victim told officer Freeman that she was laying on her bed when Jones came into the room and began to try and take her phone. He had been drinking, and during the struggle the victim made it to the office room on the left side and ended up face down on the floor with her hands down toward her waist continuing to try and keep Jones from getting the phone.

This is when Jones began hitting the victim in the head with his fist, and her statement was backed up by the presence of large bloody spots on the floor along with blood splatter on the door frame and the adjacent wall.

Jones was able to get her phone and threw it in the toilet and flushed it causing her to not be able to call for emergency assistance. The victim was somehow able to make it to her feet and go down the hall and into the bedroom where she laid on the bed with severe lacerations.

She told officers that she did not recall how she was able to get out of the apartment to the neighbors downstairs. She would be transported to the emergency room for medical care.

Ryan Jones was taken to jail and served with warrants for aggravated assault, evading arrest, and preventing another from placing a 911 call. He was served with bond conditions and a GPS monitoring system.
