MAN ARRESTED FOR CUMBERLAND COUNTY STORE ROBBERY
On June 14, 2026, at approximately 4:08 PM, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Investigator Sarah Smith responded to a robbery report at the Old School Store, located on Newton Road in Crossville. According to a witness and the store owner, a suspect had entered the store earlier at noon and returned at 4:00 PM.
After a brief verbal confrontation with the witness regarding a lighter, the suspect stole a 12-pack of Michelob Ultra Minis valued at $14.00. When an employee attempted to block his exit, the suspect grabbed her by the shoulders, lifted her off the ground, and forcefully pushed her into a counter before fleeing outbound on foot along Newton Road. The store owner later spotted the suspect walking along the roadway, but he fled into a wooded area after noticing her vehicle.
Investigator Smith documented a developing bruise and scratch on the employee’s arm and utilized store footage and tips from the store owner and the witness to identify the suspect as 31-year-old Joshua Alan Ladner. Warrants were obtained for his arrest, and Ladner was subsequently taken into custody on June 15, 2026, by Deputy Michael Winebarger.
He faces a felony robbery charge with a bond set at $100,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on June 18, 2026.
