MAN ARRESTED IN MONTEREY FOR CHECK FORGERY AND IMPERSONATION

From the Monterey Police Department:

On June 3rd, officers responded to One Bank of Tennessee on Stratton Avenue in regards to a male subject attempting to cash a fraudulent check. Chief Mackie and Lieutenant Neff arrived on scene and found a male subject on foot standing by the kiosk attempting to cash a check.

Chief Mackie and Lieutenant Neff made contact with the subject and identified him as Mathew Rinks from the Nashville area. Sergeant Blake Bennett and Officer Durham responded to the scene to assist. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Mr. Rinks had also cashed fraudulent checks in Livingston and Cookeville totaling approximately $3,500. Mr. Rinks was attempting to cash a check in Monterey for approximately $2,100.

Mr. Rinks was taken into custody and charged with forgery and criminal simulation. This investigation is still ongoing and further charges are pending from our agency as well as from Cookeville PD and Livingston PD.
