MAN ARRESTED ON MILLER AVENUE IN CROSSVILLE AFTER ALLEGEDLY DRIVING DRUNK WITH DAMAGED WINDSHIELD

On May 31, 2026, Patrol Officer Nathan Ramson responded to a dispatch report of a black Chevrolet Camaro driving recklessly on Highway 127 South. Sergeant Sadula located the vehicle traveling southbound on Miller Avenue, where it made a sudden stop in the middle of an intersection before executing a wide left turn onto Old Lantana Road from the incorrect lane.

Additionally, the vehicle’s front windshield was severely damaged, completely obstructing the driver’s vision. When Sgt. Sadula initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle delayed its response before pulling into the Miller Mart parking lot, where it rolled for several feet before coming to a final stop.

As Sgt. Sadula approached, the driver, later identified as Gilberto Hernandez, quickly opened his door and attempted to exit the vehicle. Due to a language barrier, Mr. Hernandez did not comply with verbal commands to stay inside, requiring Sgt. Sadula to physically assist him out of the car. After Mr. Hernandez began making erratic movements, Sergeant Henson detained him in handcuffs.

Ptl. Ramson observed that Mr. Hernandez exhibited red, glossy eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol on his person. Because of his severe level of intoxication, standardized field sobriety tests were bypassed for safety reasons. When questioned by Sgt. Henson, Mr. Hernandez admitted to consuming two beers, and a subsequent probable cause search of his vehicle uncovered three open and five unopened beer containers. Officers also located a New Mexico identification card for Mr. Hernandez but determined he did not possess a valid driver’s license.

Following his arrest, Ptl. Ramson transported Mr. Hernandez to the Cumberland County Jail. After obtaining a search warrant for a blood sample, Ptl. Ramson escorted Mr. Hernandez to the Cumberland Medical Center, where a medical professional collected two vials of whole blood. Mr. Hernandez was then returned to jail intake, where he was served with warrants for driving under the influence (DUI) and driving without a license, while the blood evidence was secured in temporary storage.
