MAN CHARGED FOR STABBING IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Last Friday officers responded to a call of a stabbing at the apartments off HWY 70E. Clifton Wagner, age 37, exited an apartment while Tim Ports and Ian Moerdyk were working on a vehicle in the parking lot. Wagner approached the two males with an open pocket knife and they started to fight.  After knocking Wagner to the ground, Ports was walking to the apartment when Wagner got up and stabbed him in the back. Moerdyk had gotten cut in the scuffle but the incident finally ended when Moerdyk picked up a hatchet and told Wagner to leave. Ports was flown to UT trauma center for emergency surgery due to a loss of blood from the injury to an artery and a punctured lung.

Later, 911 received a call from a man saying he had stabbed someone and was at the Sunco station on HWY 70E. Officers arrested Wagner and also found a bloodied knife behind the station.

Wagner was placed under a $100,000 bond and remains in custody, awaiting an appearance in General Sessions Court.
