MAN CHARGED WITH DUI AFTER THREE-CAR CRASH NEAR ROMOS

On Friday last week at around 7:24 p.m. Officer Amy Sherill of the Crossville Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of North Main Street and Northside Drive for a three-vehicle crash in front of Romos. Upon arriving, Lieutenant Qualls who arrived shortly before Officer Sherill, asked for another unit due to one of the involved persons being belligerent.

Officer Sherill observed a man, later identified as Clinton Bice, arguing with the lieutenant. Lieutenant Qualls advised Sherill that the man was possibly intoxicated and had been verbally combative.

While speaking with another person involved in the crash, the person began reacting to the below-30 temperatures, only for Bice to argue with the person saying that it wasn’t cold outside. Bice was asked if he had had any alcohol to which she said no, and refused sobriety tests.

However, he was observed to have red watery eyes and slurred speech. He was deemed too intoxicated to operate a vehicle which is believed to have led to him being the cause of the three-vehicle crash. He would be placed into custody, however he would continue to be argumentative and verbally berate officers about what they were saying even when they weren’t speaking to him.

Sergeant Karlsven transported Bice to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Officer Sherill applied for and was granted a search warrant for two vials of his blood.

Lieutenant Qualls performed an inventory of the man’s vehicle before having it towed and inside was found a Glock 43 x 9 mm handgun with 10 rounds of ammunition and a loaded magazine in the passenger floorboard.

Bice would be charged with driving under the influence and possession of a handgun while intoxicated.
