MAN CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER IN DEATH OF PIKEVILLE, KENTUCKY, WOMAN
A Virginia man has been arrested for DUI and manslaughter after a crash that killed a woman in Letcher County, Kentucky. Troopers say the woman died late Saturday afternoon after a two-car crash in Payne Gap near Jenkins, Kentucky. Officers say 37-year-old Travis Helbert was driving a Chevy Silverado northbound on US 119 while pulling a horse trailer when he lost control of the truck and crossed the center line. Helbert then hit the Toyota Yaris driven by 66-year-old Judy Kiser. Kiser and her two passengers, 90-year-old Kathleen Tackett and 61-year-old Barbara Newsome of Pikeville, Kentucky, were taken to the hospital. Newsome passed away from injuries sustained. Helbert was charged with DUI, manslaughter, assault, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
