As reported by WJLE Radio, a 21-year-old man, Idan Alberto Estudillo Gutierrez, died in a head-on crash on Highway 56 north in DeKalb County, near the Putnam County line on June 21, 2025. Driving a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander southbound, Gutierrez crossed the center line, colliding with a northbound 2024 GMC Terrain driven by 60-year-old Jama Martin.

Two children (ages 10 and 6) in Martin’s vehicle were injured and transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Neither driver wore a seatbelt. Martin’s vehicle caught fire, which deputies and firefighters extinguished.

Gutierrez was trapped, extricated, and later died at the hospital.
