MAN FACES DUI WITH CHILD, METH POSSESSION, AND HIGH-SPEED EVADING ARREST CHARGES IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY
Brandon Scott Nelson is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Circuit Court on June 2, 2026, on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from a November 27, 2024 incident.
According to the affidavit and grand jury indictment, a deputy observed Nelson driving a light-colored Chevy Tahoe at over 100 mph on 70N. During the ensuing pursuit, Nelson drove recklessly, passed vehicles on double yellow lines, and ran multiple red lights in Crossville.
After the vehicle stopped, Nelson resisted arrest and failed to comply with orders. Officers found a 1-year-old child on the floorboard of the vehicle and approximately 0.78 grams of methamphetamine in Nelson’s pocket. He was observed to be highly agitated and incoherent, leading officers to believe he was under the influence.
The indictment charges Nelson with:
- reckless endangerment involving a vehicle
- evading arrest creating a risk of death or injury with a vehicle involved
- resisting stop/arrest/search by using force against an officer
- possession of methamphetamine
- DUI first offense
- DUI with a child under 18
He is represented by attorney Joseph T. Wyatt and is currently out on a $70,000 surety bond.
