MAN FALLS VICTIM TO MAILBOX SCAM

On Tuesday, Deputy Tashua Stone interviewed a man at the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office regarding a scam that cost him $1,650. The man told the deputy he received a phone call, offering him money in exchange for placing $375 in his mailbox.

A female in a silver four-door car with a sunroof picked up the money. Subsequently, he received another call from, claiming a system error and requesting an additional $325, which was collected by a similarly described car but with a different female driver, both wearing hooded jackets that obscured their faces.

This pattern continued with the man placing $425 and $525 in the mailbox on subsequent occasions. He learned from another individual that a person whose vehicle bore emergency tags might be involved.

He provided the deputy with bank statements documenting the cash withdrawals.
