MAN HAVING MEDICAL EPISODE CRASHES INTO KINGSTON PAPA JOHNS

From the Kingston Police Department:
On 07/05/2025, at approximately 1547 hours, officers with the Kingston Police Department arrived at Papa Johns located at 627 E. Race Street in reference to a call of a vehicle striking the building.
Officers found that a 1996 GMC 1500 had driven into the building. Officers spoke with witnesses and reconstructed the events that had occurred.
One witness stated that the vehicle negotiated a curve on E. Race Street, accelerated, went off the roadway, struck a parked vehicle causing it to hit another parked vehicle, struck a parking curb causing it to go airborne and then went into the building. The witness stopped and was able to get the truck turned off. EMS and Kingston Fire Department accessed the driver, Michael Birmley, 63, of Kingston.
Upon investigation, the cause of the crash was determined to be the result of a medical situation. The driver was treated and released from the scene. Two employees of Papa Johns sustained what appeared to be minor injuries. Papa Johns was closed due to extensive damage to the building. A nearby business, Club Tan salon was damaged by flying debris.
No charges are to be filed.
