MAN IN UTILITY TRUCK FOUND DRUNK AT DOLLAR TREE

A report by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says on October 20th at approximately 9:24 p.m. Corporal Logan Janow of the Fairfield Glade Police Department observed a vehicle in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree on Peavine Road. The vehicle was a large white utility truck similar to those used by public utility companies and didn’t have a license plate.

The vehicle was not parked in a parking space and Officer Janow determined the vehicle being stopped at a closed business in such a way was suspicious.

The officer identified the driver as Brian Dwight Turner. After making contact with the driver Officer Janow noticed two open cans of Coors beer sitting in the cup holders and a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Turner’s eyes looked to be bloodshot and glossy.

Officer Janow asked if Turner was with a utility company, trying to see if the driver had legitimate business in the area, and observed Turner’s speech to be extremely slurred to the point that the officer couldn’t understand what he was saying.

Turner admitted to drinking some alcohol, around 6 to 7 beers, and even agreed with the officer that he was intoxicated. The driver stumbled and had trouble balancing upon exiting his vehicle, and refused to do sobriety tests.

Dispatch advised Officer Janow that Turner’s driving status was revoked in Tennessee for DUI offenses. Due to the totality of the circumstances, Turner was placed in custody for being intoxicated while operating and being in control of a motor vehicle while on the premises of a shopping mall.

Turner’s son arrived on location to retrieve the vehicle so it wouldn’t be towed. A search located two cans of Coors light beer, still cold to the touch, and two more empty cans.

The criminal history search revealed Turner had been convicted of DUI three times before in November of 2019.

Turner will be charged with driving under the influence, driving on a revoked/suspended license, and violating open container law. His bond is set at $4,000 with a court date of November 18th.
