MAN REPORTS $200,000 FRAUD TO FAIRFIELD GLADE POLICE

On February 20th, at around 3:40 PM, Fairfield Glade Police Officer Michael Murphy was contacted by dispatch regarding a potential scam. The caller informed Officer Murphy that his mother held three annuity accounts with State Farm, valued at approximately $200,000, with the caller and his sister listed as beneficiaries.
On January 16, 2025, The caller’s mother received a letter about taxes owed on the funds, prompting him to investigate. He discovered that on February 8, 2024, all three annuity accounts had been transferred to Independent Bank, into an account. The caller’s mother denied any knowledge of the transfer.
The caller suspects his sister accessed the accounts digitally and moved the funds to her own account without permission. State Farm refused to provide the caller with further details until he submitted a law enforcement report.
The caller, who was out of the area during the call, promised to provide additional account information for the report as soon as possible and mentioned he was also filing an IC3 report.
While a suspect was named, no charges or warrents have been filed as of yet.
