MAN WHO LEAD CUMBERLAND DEPUTIES ON HIGH SPEED CHASE THROUGH CONSTRUCTION ZONE TO APPEAR IN COURT ON MONDAY
On Monday, June 8th, 2026, 50-year-old Crossville resident Gary Allen Woody is scheduled to appear in the Cumberland County General Sessions Court to face criminal charges stemming from a high-speed pursuit. The incident occurred on the night of April 28, 2026, when Sergeant Brandon Griffin of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull Woody over near Highway 127 North and Potato Farm Road for an illegal window tint violation.
Instead of stopping, Woody accelerated to speeds up to 74 mph through a 45 mph construction zone and continued fleeing at high speeds before finally stopping on Leland Pryor Road. Following his arrest, Woody admitted he fled because he was driving on a revoked license. He has been officially charged with Evading Arrest (Flight – Vehicle) and Driving While License Revoked.
