MAN WHO POSED AS UT FOOTBALL PLAYER ON SNAPCHAT IS SENTENCED
A Sweetwater man has received 30-months behind bars after he pleaded guilty last year to charges of extorting women through mobile messaging. 23-year-old Brandon Douglas Shanahan was sentenced Tuesday. Shanahan posed as former UT football player Cameron Sutton on Snapchat. During conversations with unsuspecting women, Shanahan would try to extort them into sending him nude pictures. Sutton had no idea of the impersonation scheme. Shanahan’s plea-bargain recommending an 18-month prison sentence was revoked after investigators discovered what they called “new criminal conduct.” This week, Shanahan was found guilty of two counts of interstate communications with intent to extort.
