MAN WITH PRIOR DUI CHARGE CRASHES CAR WHILE HIGH ON HEROIN AND FENTANYL

On August 22, 2025, Deputy Jordan Winningham responded to a call at Gray Fox Court in Crossville, where a vehicle driven by Derrik Bryan Turner had struck a mailbox and trash can before ending up in the woods. Upon arrival, EMS and Investigator Moore were attending to Turner, who was unresponsive, exhibiting signs of intoxication including slurred speech, constricted pupils, and disorientation, mistakenly believing he was in jail and unaware of the current year.

EMS administered Narcan, which partially revived him, though he remained impaired. Turner admitted to using heroin or fentanyl about an hour before the crash and directed deputies to a piece of burnt foil containing drug residue in his vehicle. A license check revealed Turner’s license was revoked due to a prior DUI.

Due to his condition, no field sobriety test was conducted. Turner was arrested for driving under the influence and driving on a revoked license, with bond set at $1,500 for each charge and a court date scheduled for September 15, 2025. A search warrant was granted for a blood draw, and two vials of Turner’s blood were collected and stored as evidence.

The damaged mailbox, valued at $100, was replaced by Turner, as confirmed by the homeowner. The burnt foil was photographed and disposed of.
