MARYVILLE MAN KILLED BY FIREWORKS EXPLODING INTO HIS CHEST

A man from Maryville, Tennessee, died after suffering a chest wound from an exploding firework on the Fourth of July, according to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to reports of an unconscious person around 11 p.m. on Thursday night at Evergreen Farms Lane.

The sheriff’s office report states when deputies arrived on the scene, they saw three people performing CPR on the victim, identified as Matthew Sellars.

According to the report, deputies took over CPR duties and held pressure on Sellars’ wound until paramedics arrived to take over.

According to officials, Sellars was shooting fireworks with some friends by holding them in their hands. One of the fireworks exploded into Sellars’ chest, causing him to fall to the ground, bleeding with a large, gaping hole in his upper body and a cut on his right hand.

Sellars was transported to Blount Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead at approximately 11:30 p.m.

According to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, no one was charged or cited for the incident, and there were no other injuries.
