MATHEW HOOPER ARRESTED FOR SOLICITING SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF A MINOR VIA SNAPCHAT
A Tennessee man faces multiple felony charges following an investigation into electronic solicitation and sexual exploitation of a minor, officials announced.
Arrest warrants issued on July 16, 2026, charge Mathew S. Hooper with two counts of Soliciting Sexual Exploitation of a Minor by Electronic Means.
Key Details of the Investigation
According to the arrest warrants, the alleged offenses occurred between June 1, 2026, and June 30, 2026. Investigators state that Hooper, an adult, used the social media platform Snapchat to solicit and exchange explicit material with a minor victim.
-
Explicit Content Exchanged: Authorities allege Hooper intentionally coerced the minor victim into engaging in offensive sexual activity and sending videos of the acts to him electronically. Additionally, Hooper is accused of sending explicit photos of himself to the child during the same timeframe.
-
Evidence Recovery: The communications and media were initially discovered by the minor’s grandmother. Law enforcement investigators subsequently retrieved the evidence directly from the child’s cellular device.
-
Identification: Investigators verified the Snapchat account using the SnapID
mhoop7879, which is registered under Hooper’s name with the Tennessee Department of Correction. Law enforcement officers also visually identified Hooper as the subject depicted in the illicit photos sent to the minor.
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation was launched by the Algood Police Department, with assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and District Attorney Investigators.
Authorities noted that the joint investigation remains active and ongoing as law enforcement agencies work to determine if additional charges will be filed against Hooper.
