McCLARAN CHARGED WITH THEFT IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

An alert deputy last night stopped a theft in progress in Cumberland County. The officer observed a Honda Civic stopped at an auto sales business on Highway 127 North with its hazard lights on. The driver, 38-year-old Billy Wayne McClaran of Crossville, said he was having engine trouble. But the deputy reportedly saw a 20 inch tire in the back seat then found three more behind a vehicle parked on the car lot matching the one in the suspects’ vehicle. McClaran was charged with theft.
