American Airlines has announced the launch of direct flights from McGhee-Tyson Airport to New York’s LaGuardia Airport. The airline announced the new route to accommodate changing needs in the area.

“It’s a growing market. People are coming to the airport,” said American Airlines spokesman Marvin Mulder. “We are here to get our market shared and serve as many people as we can.”

The new non-stop flight schedule began yesterday. And passengers can leave Knoxville and be in New York within two hours’ time.

The announcement comes on the heels of Allegiant Airlines’ announcement of new non-stop service from Knoxville to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
