A Meigs County jury convicted a man yesterday of murdering his own mother with a hammer. Officers say Jeron Smith attacked Karen Neal in 2012. Smith was 22 at the time of his arrest. After the murder, police say Smith gave a shotgun to his 5-year-old nephew, and asked the child to shoot him. Smith will be sentenced for second-degree murder on July 23, 2018.
