MEIGS COUNTY MAN DEAD AFTER SHOOTING

In Decatur, Tennessee, a tragic incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2025, resulting in the death of 59-year-old Jackie Allen Fairbanks. The event took place at a family compound on Shiloh Road, where multiple family members reside.
According to District Attorney General Richard Johnson, Fairbanks, who had been drinking with his two grandsons, became violent and began assaulting a woman. The grandsons sought help from their father, who arrived armed with a pistol.
Upon witnessing Fairbanks attacking the woman and threatening him with a “long silver colored object,” the son attempted to intervene. When Fairbanks continued the assault, the son fired a warning shot into the wall before shooting Fairbanks multiple times, striking his femoral artery.
Despite efforts to stop the bleeding, including using a belt as a tourniquet, Fairbanks succumbed to his injuries.
The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office and the DA’s investigator are working with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to investigate the incident, and no charges have been filed at this time.
