MELTON, DAGAN ARRESTED AFTER TRAFFIC STOP IN ROANE COUNTY

Friday morning, Roane County deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle whose driver was behaving erratically and whose registration came back to a different car. The driver, 54-year-old William Lee Melton, explained he had been pulled over in Kingston the day before and was told to get the vehicle registered that day. He also said he had insurance but didn’t have proof of insurance in the vehicle.

When deputies asked the female passenger for her ID, she said she didn’t have one, but claimed to be Latesha Roberts.

Deputies ran the passenger’s name through the system; it came back as not on file. She began to get “noticeably irritated” and said she’d given the correct information. The deputy said she could be arrested for criminal impersonation if she were lying.

She insisted she wasn’t lying and was trying to cooperate.

When asked for her Social Security number, she provided a number that was dually verified to belong to a man in Hickory Valley Tennessee.

At that point, the woman got out of the vehicle, went to the patrol car and said she felt bad for lying and was ready to be honest; 35-year-old Kimberly Denise Dagan was found to have two active warrants for failure to appear and violation of probation. She was arrested on the existing warrants, as well as criminal impersonation for providing false personal information after being warned about the consequences.

Melton agreed to permit a search of the vehicle. He said there might be a few needles in the vehicle because his wife is diabetic.

Deputies didn’t find any needles, but they did locate a small amount of meth in the driver’s side door pocket.

When asked if the meth belonged to her, Dagan reportedly told deputies, “That’s not mine. Ask anyone in the jail! I take my charges but that’s not mine! He needs to man up and take his charges!”

Melton was arrested for possession of Schedule II substances.

Both were taken to the Roane County Detention Center.
