The U.S. Geological Survey says a 2.9 magnitude earthquake occurred this morning in Northeast Knox County. The quake was centered in the mining community of Mascot. Earthquakes between 2.5 and 5.4 on the Richter scale are considered minor, often being felt but usually only causing minor damage.
