MISSISSIPPI MAN LEADS POLICE IN CHASE; ARRESTED IN OLIVER SPRINGS

From the Oliver Springs Police Department:
This afternoon (Saturday March 1st), Officers from the Oliver Springs Police Department successfully apprehended a 40-year-old male from Mississippi operating a U-Haul truck reported stolen from Harrison County Mississippi after a Flock camera system alert identified the vehicle entering the Town of Oliver Springs.
Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect’s vehicle failed to yield, prompting a pursuit that led down Harriman Hwy into the Blair and Clax Gap Communities. During the pursuit, the stolen U-Haul left the roadway on Webster Rd near the Emory River. The suspect then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, eventually entering the Little Emory River in an apparent attempt to evade capture and a K9 track was initiated. Shortly after, law enforcement located and arrested the individual as he attempted to hide inside a residence on Old Suddath Rd.
The arrest underscores the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies and the modern technology in addressing vehicle theft and ensuring public safety. The suspect was charged with Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, Reckless Driving, and active warrants in Roane County.
Police Chief David Laxton stated, “Our team’s swift action and use of modern technology were crucial in bringing this suspect to justice. We remain dedicated to the safety of our community and will continue to vigorously pursue those who attempt to undermine it. I would like to thank the Roane County Sheriff’s Office, Rockwood Police Department, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol for their assistance in the search and apprehension of the suspect.”
