MONROE COUNTY SHERIFF WARNS OF SCAMMERS POSING AS LAW ENFORCEMENT
Scammers are at it again…
Scammers are using a third party app and spoofing the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office phone number and calling individuals stating they have jury duty and falsifying information to have them withdraw money and put it into bitcoin machines or apple pay cards.
No! Law enforcement does NOT call asking for donations or money regarding jury duty or arrest warrants. At no point will any of our staff call a citizen and ask for money.
Remember, DO NOT GIVE OUT INFORMATION. HANG UP!!!
If you receive a phone call from our agency, they will not request money or any form of payment. Always ask for badge numbers, as well as an employee ID number (these are different and only known by the employer). Verify this information by calling the Monroe County Dispatch Center at (423) 442-4357 and requesting the officers’ identify to be verified, as well as the call for service being legitimate.
REMEMBER, DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR MONEY OR INFORMATION TO SCAMMERS
