MONTEREY MAN FACES METH AND CONTRABAND CHARGES IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

On October 9, 2025, Deputy Tyler Leary of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a blue 2001 Mercury sedan with a suspended registration at 621 Mayland Loop, Crossville, Tennessee. The driver, identified as Michael Ray Cobble, a 52-year-old white male from Monterey, Tennessee, consented to a search of his person.
Deputy Leary discovered a baggie containing approximately 4.5 grams of a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine in Cobble’s pants pocket. Despite denying possession of additional illegal items, Cobble was arrested and transported to Cumberland County Intake for booking on charges of simple possession of methamphetamine.
During a strip search at the facility, correctional officers found an additional 0.5 grams of a similar substance on Cobble, leading to an additional charge of introducing contraband (intoxicants/drugs) into a penal facility. The substances, totaling approximately 5 grams, were seized and sent to the TBI Lab for testing.
Cobble was charged under Tennessee statute 39-17-434 for possession of methamphetamine and 39-16-201 for contraband, with bond amounts set at $2,500 and $6,000, respectively, and a court date scheduled for November 3, 2025. The vehicle search yielded no additional evidence.
