MONTEREY MARKET TO PAY $1000 FINE FOR SELLING ALCOHOL TO MINORS

The City of Monterey Beer Board has decided that a market will pay for selling alcohol to minors. The board met Monday and voted to issue a $1000 fine to Carl’s Super Market which was ordered to be paid within one week. One of the store’s clerks is accused of selling the alcohol to underage customers without looking at an ID. Mayor Bill Wiggins said in the meeting that “this should be a reminder to all vendors selling beer.” He also stated that letters will be sent out reminding all vendors that city police would be doing random checks and that they “should be on guard.” The decision marked the first time that a disciplinary hearing took place since the city voters approved the selling of beer in 2016.
