MORE DETAILS RELEASED FROM POLICE CHASE IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

More details have been released in reference to the police chase that happened Sunday, February 5th.
Crossville City officers were first called to Centennial Park with reports of a white car ramming into the fence by the skating area multiple times and leaving the scene. An officer observed the vehicle fleeing with heavy damage to the front and the left mirror hanging off and tried to conduct a traffic stop on Industrial Blvd. The City officer pursued the vehicle after the driver would not stop and was assisted by Cumberland County Deputies through Highway 127 South. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Alexander Rice who traveled in an unsafe manner by running stop lights, not stopping at intersections, and passing moving vehicles in a no-passing zone. When a Cumberland County deputy tried to block Rice’s vehicle in with his patrol unit to stop him, Rice hit the patrol unit and continued down Highway 127S until the area by Sawmill Market when he rear-ended a van. The City police officer was able to pass the vehicle and try to box him in. After hitting the city unit, Rice fled on foot and was tasered so the officers were able to gain control.
During this time, the back seat juvenile got out of the car and started to flee, when she was detained by authorities. When asked why she ran, she told them that she was scared and wanted to get away from Mr. Rice. She was released to her mother at the scene.
An officer had their gun pointed at the passenger of the vehicle, due to safety for the officers. When exiting the car, the passenger was identified as Megan Fitzgerald. It was reported that she listened and cooperated with all the commands given. The authorities noticed that Ms. Fitzgerald had facial injuries, not due to the car crash. She was given medical treatment. The Cumberland County detectives are investigating, as Rice could be charged with more assault charges.
Alexander Rice is being charged with:
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident
- Failure to Report Vehicle Accident
- Reckless Driving
- Evading Arrest
- Resisting Stop, Frisk, Halt, Arrest or Search
- 4 citations: Running traffic lights, Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Following too Closely
- Multiple charges from THP
