MORE DETAILS RELEASED REGARDING FBI HIGH SPEED CHASE IN CUMBERLAND CO.

Authorities released more details regarding a recent FBI high speed pursuit that involved three counties, including Cumberland. Agents first encountered 52-year-old Timothy Edward Barnes of Jasper, Georgia in Bledsoe County. Barnes was wanted for trafficking meth. The pursuit entered Cumberland County with the FBI and county deputies chasing Barnes. He then entered Rhea County. Barnes and officers reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour on Highway 27. The chase ended north of Spring City on the highway when Barnes drove into a field and stopped near a creek. Barnes fled on foot but was captured several minutes later. In addition to the federal charges, Barnes faces driving on a revoked license, evading arrest, and reckless endangerment in Rhea County. Barnes also faces charges in Bledsoe County as a result of the chase.
