MORE INFORMATION RELEASED REGARDING STANDOFF IN CUMBERLAND CO.
More information was released this morning by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department regarding a standoff last Thursday night.
The report states deputies were called to a residence on the 900 block of Russell Ridge Road for a domestic disturbance. After officers arrived, the learned that 76-year-old James Reagan ran into the house armed. The Crossville SWAT Team was called to the scene to assist.
The incident reportedly started when Reagan got into an argument with a woman after he asked her to help him fix a lawnmower. Reagan allegedly started throwing chairs, a tire tool, log chain, and other objects at the victim. The woman walked off and Reagan supposedly came at her with a crowbar. The victim went towards a relative’s home next door and a man came to assist her, only to have Reagan grab a .357 Magnum from the home and pointed at her and an officer who arrived.
Officers learned that not only was Reagan reportedly abusive to the female in the past, but he suffers from Alzheimer’s.
After a two hour standoff with authorities, Reagan surrendered peacefully.
Reagan was transported to Cumberland Medical Center for a mental evaluation. Once released, warrants are active for his arrest for two counts of aggravated assault.
