Years ago Roane County Sheriff Jack Stockton started a program intended to help clean up communities as trash on the side of highways became an issue. Sheriff Stockton started the Inmate Litter Detail where ever summer, non-violent inmates are given the opportunity to join this crew. Over the years this program, supervised by Sgt. Rick Butler, has collected an estimated 146 bags of trash per day. As you are traveling in Roane County please be mindful of this work crew as they will be walking down the side of the roadway.
