MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR RENOVATION PLANS FOR NEYLAND STADIUM PROPOSED

Thursday, University of Tennessee Athletic Director John Currie unveiled a multi-million dollar renovation plan proposal for Neyland Stadium. Currie said that the estimated cost of the project is $340 million which will be doled out in two phases. Currie stated that although the price tag is high, it’s no more than what is usually planned for other such university stadium projects. The new renovations are expected to make the facility more “fan-friendly”. Plans include adding more space per individual seat, and simpler, wider pathways for foot-travel. A new kitchen and commissary is planned along with expansions of the Sky Garden, fan zone and 15 new open-air suites. A club is also expected to be added to field level that would have enough room for 1800 patrons. The renovations are expected to be funded through the centennial campaign, general revenue, earned operating revenue, partnerships, and budgeted debt service. Currie expects the project budget to be approved by Dec. 14. If approved, phase one of the Neyland project will start in 2018 and is estimated to be complete by the 2020 football season.
