A coordinated effort by White County emergency personnel resulted in the successful rescue and airlifting of an injured individual along South Fork Road on the afternoon of June 26.

First responders from the Doyle, Central View, and Hickory Valley Volunteer Fire Departments, alongside the Sparta-White County Volunteer Rescue Squad, arrived at the scene to find a patient on the Calfkiller Riverbank suffering from a compound leg fracture.

Extrication proved challenging due to the severe terrain, which required navigating steep stairways and slick rock steps. Rescuers set up a low-angle rope system to safely haul the patient up the incline. Once at ground level, the individual was handed over to an awaiting air medical crew and flown to a regional trauma center for emergency treatment.

Officials credited the seamless execution of the dangerous operation to the frequent joint training exercises conducted by local agencies.

Local volunteer departments and the Sparta-White County Volunteer Rescue Squad are actively seeking new members. Area residents interested in serving their community as volunteer first responders are encouraged to apply through their local fire department or rescue squad.
