MULTIPLE HOAX BOMB THREATS DISRUPT MIDDLE AND WEST TENNESSEE SCHOOLS, NO INJURIES REPORTED
WSMV reports that Multiple school threats disrupted campuses across Tennessee on Monday morning, but authorities reported no injuries or credible dangers.
More than half a dozen schools were affected by what law enforcement described as hoax threats, primarily bomb threats and reports of violence called in to 911. As of noon, all investigated threats were deemed not credible, though every report was taken seriously. The Tennessee Highway Patrol, working with local agencies and Homeland Security, responded to each campus and stated that safety remained their top priority.
The affected schools included:
- Jackson Central-Merry Early College High in Jackson (lockdown lifted)
- Franklin High School and Page High School in Franklin (lockdowns lifted)
- Antioch High School in Nashville (lockdown lifted)
- Smyrna High School
- LaVergne High School
- Holloway High School (still on lockdown as of the report)
- Clarksville High School (on lockout)
- Page Middle School in Franklin (lockdown lifted due to proximity to the high school)
These incidents appear consistent with swatting, a tactic in which individuals make false emergency reports to trigger a large law enforcement response, often involving SWAT teams. The FBI notes that such hoaxes endanger both responders and the community by diverting resources from real emergencies. Swatting incidents at schools have risen nationally, with significant spikes recorded in early 2023. Authorities continue to investigate the Tennessee threats.
