MULTIPLE ROAD ISSUES CAUSE CONGESTION ON I-40 IN CUMBERLAND AND PUTNAM COUNTIES
Three separate road issues are occurring within 8 miles of each other along Interstate 40 in the Cumberland and Putnam County areas of Tennessee.
First, a downed power line is causing traffic congestion on Plateau Road near I-40 Exit 311.
Second, on I-40 Westbound in Cumberland County between mile markers 305 and 304, the right lane is closed due to a catch basin repair, with work scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, 2026, and Thursday, April 16, 2026.
Third, a long-term bridge repair project on I-40 in Putnam County between mile markers 304 and 306 is affecting both westbound and eastbound directions, with the right shoulders blocked. Nighttime paving activities for this bridge project began on March 29, 2026, and involve temporary lane closures on the outside shoulders. Work is typically conducted Sunday night through Friday morning from 7 PM to 6 AM and is expected to continue through December 20, 2027.
Motorists are advised to use caution in these areas and expect delays.
