NASHVILLE MAN BLAMES APPARENT IMAGINARY FRIEND FOR CRASH

A Nashville man accused in a DUI-related crash is blaming his imaginary friend for the accident.

A Metro Police affidavit states 26-year-old John Couch was charged with driving under the influence Friday, after being seen standing by a liquor store at the intersection of Charlotte Avenue and Morrow Road.

An employee of a nearby eatery claimed a man matching Couch’s description had been driving under the influence. The witness also gave a license-plate number that matched the one on Couch’s vehicle.

When police asked Couch about the crash, he told them his friend was driving and fled the scene… but he couldn’t provide any information about the alleged friend.

He refused to perform any of the standard field-sobriety tests, as well as implied consent when it was read to him.

Police say Couch also resisted arrest; two officers had to force him into a patrol vehicle
