Sirens screeching and blue lights flashing shattered the calm of a Friday early evening in Cumberland County, marking the beginning of last night’s high-speed chase through parts of Cumberland and Bledsoe counties – a chase that ended with a rollover crash on U.S. Highway 127 in Pikeville.

At one point, as many as 18 law-enforcement vehicles – including Cumberland County deputies, state troopers and even undercover vehicles – were said to have been involved in the chase, which reached speeds of 100 miles per hour.

According to reports from multiple residents, several police cars sped down Lantana Road shortly after 6 p.m. Friday. At one point, they were said to have turned onto Hutoha Drive before reportedly turning around and heading back toward Lantana.

A subsequent report counted ten vehicles pursuing the green Mazda truck with two suspects down Dunbar Road.

Earlier, the suspect vehicle had driven down POW Camp Road, where officers were said to have walked up and down both sides of the road in front of one witness’ home, “looking for something [the passenger] threw out.”

Another person reported the driver was driving erratically, being destructive and tearing up people’s lawns in one neighborhood.

One Shadberry Road resident claimed an undercover police car had joined the chase; that claim has not been independently substantiated. Another local resident reported seeing a Tennessee Highway Patrol vehicle, as well.

By the time the truck reached 127 South, some fifteen law-enforcement vehicles were in pursuit.

And then, as abruptly as it began, it was over. Just at 7 p.m. Central Time, the truck flipped over on 127 and crashed in Bledsoe County, after rolling multiple times. By that time, there were reportedly eighteen cars in pursuit.

One woman told 1057 News, “All I know is they made it from Cold Springs to where they wrecked in roughly two minutes and it’s a roughly seven-minute drive.”

The driver and passenger were transported to the hospital by EMS for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
