Nearly 100 firefighters were flown into the area from the western part of the United States Thursday in order to aid local fire crews to combat wildfires. All received a Thanksgiving dinner before they were turned loose to battle a fire located south of Petros in Morgan County. Agents from the Tennessee Division of Forestry said that the fire, near Highways 62 and 116, burned vigorously throughout the day blowing heavy smoke toward Oliver Springs. It was the second fire of the week in the area. The other fire was located in the mountains northeast of Petros near the Anderson/Morgan County line. In all, 72 wildfires were being fought during the Thanksgiving Holiday.
