NEW SCHOOL BUILDING PROJECTS BACK ON DRAWING BOARD IN ROANE COUNTY

The Roane County Board of Education met last night to once again review options for new school buildings. Members elected to designate around 10 million dollars from federal stimulus funding for constructing two new facilities.

One would replace Roane County High School in Kingston with a updated version at the same location.

The other would go on a site to be determined and would combine the existing Rockwood and Harriman High School.

This plan was rejected after extensive studies 2 years ago, after funding the some 30 million dollar projects seemed out of reach at the time. Now with federal assistance, school board members are optimistic they can get the county commission behind them with the extra dollars needed. The Lewis Group Architectural Firm will deliver their plan for the project to the school board in their meeting next month.
