NEW SCHOOL VOUCHER PROPOSAL WOULD DRAMATICALLY EXPAND PROGRAM
Tennessee lawmakers, along with Gov. Bill Haslam, have kicked around the idea of school vouchers for some time. Such a proposal has been introduced that would expand the program at a cost of $71 million. This new proposal would give parents choices that would allow them to customize their child’s education in a way that would best serve their needs. Some lawmakers say that it poses a threat to public schools allowing $7000 for approved expenses that could also be used toward paying for private schools, homeschool education or field trips. Parents would receive the funds loaded quarterly on a debit card that would be subject to audits.
