NORFOLK SOUTHERN TRAIN DERAILS IN NORTH KNOXVILLE SATURDAY NIGHT
The Knoxville Police Department says that there was no hazardous materials and no need for evacuation in a North Knoxville area where 19 Norfolk Southern train cars derailed Saturday night. Authorities were alerted to the derailment at 10:10 PM Sunday which took place near the intersection of Inskip Drive and Morton Way. At least two businesses were damaged in the wreck however that damage has not been assessed yet. The derailed train cars have been removed at this time and new track has been laid. Normal operations are scheduled to resume Monday morning. Representatives from Norfolk are working together the KPD to determine the cause of the derailment.
