OFFICE POOL SPORTS BETTING COULD BECOME LEGAL UNDER PROPOSED LAW

A lawmaker introduced the “March Madness and Fantasy Football Freedom Act” into legislature, which would decriminalize low-level sports-entertainment pools.

Throwing a few dollars into the office basketball or football pool is a harmless tradition for many people, but what most may not realize is it’s illegal in the state of Tennessee.

Representative Bryan Terry is hoping to change that with this bill.

It is limited in its scope to only low-level sports-entertainment pools and does put a maximum entry fee of $25 per individual and $1,000 per pool. It must also be managed by an individual and not by any type of business entity.

If it passes, the bill would take effect July 1, 2019.
