OFFICIALS SAY THAT EMISSIONS FROM KINGSPORT CHEMICAL PLANT EXPLOSION WERE “NO RISK”

Officials with Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport say that emissions released into the air after explosions at the plant Wednesday, were not harmful. Eastman Senior Vice President David Golden stated that emissions including carbon monoxide and hydrogen were released, but they did not pose a risk. The explosions racked the plant around 10 AM Wednesday morning and plant workers and residents in the area were told to shelter-in-place. Crews are still analysing what happened, but it was said that a process upset the coal gasification area of the plant. No injuries were reported.
