OLIVER SPRINGS BICYCLING FATALITY NAMED
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released the name of a bicyclist killed in a traffic accident on Sunday, Dec. 2 in Oliver Springs. There was a delay in releasing the victim’s identity due to notification of the family. Seventy-two-year-old Homer A. McElroy Jr. of Oliver Springs was traveling east on Mahoney Rd. near the intersection of Pappy Lane at 6:30 PM, when he was struck by a 2004 Toyota Camry driven by 44-year-old Scott Stockton, also of Oliver Springs. McElroy was wearing a helmet but died at the scene. Stockton was wearing a seatbelt. Both drug and alcohol tests have been ordered but they are not believed to be the causing factor. No citations or charges have been issued.
