OLIVER SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

The Oliver Springs Town Council and Water Board met last Thursday evening in regular session at City Hall. During the Water Board meeting, no new business was on the agenda, but they discussed their budget for the water and sewer department. They stated that there could be a 3.9% increase in water and sewer rates for inside city residents only this year, although this has not been finalized. City Manager Corey Jenkins also stated that they are still reviewing applications for a Utility Director position.
The regular council meeting followed the Water Board meeting. The council was addressed by Anderson County Property Assessor John Alley about the reappraisal changes, moving from a 5-year to a 4-year reappraisal cycle. He mentioned that they are using Deckard Technologies to help identify Airbnbs and short-term rentals located in Anderson County. This will allow them to properly apply the correct property tax code for these short-term rentals, which operate as commercial entities.
A new speed table was mentioned for Richard’s Drive, which may be installed in the next couple of weeks. The council also discussed the floodplain issue for Arrowhead Park and is awaiting a TVA assessment. The budgets for the general fund and water and sewer have not yet been finalized, with plans to pass them in June. A new budget work session for the council is scheduled for May 16th at 5:00 p.m.
