The Liquor-by-the-drink referendum was at the forefront of the Oliver Springs City Council meeting Thursday night. The Pastor of the Beech Park Baptist Church, Robbie Leech, addressed the council on the issue. It was brought up at last month’s meeting that in order for grocery stores in the city to be able to possibly sell wine, the other referendum had to be passed by residents first. It had also been stated that Food City had led the charge for the liquor-by-the-drink law to be voted on. A motion was made and passed at the meeting to increase footage limit where liquor could be sold in the area of a school or church from 75 feet to 300 feet. It was also decided that those already selling alcohol would be grandfathered-in so the new law would not impact them. The liquor-by-the-drink referendum will be on the Nov. 8^th ballot.
