OLIVER SPRINGS POLICE DON PINK PATCHES FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

The Oliver Springs Police Department announced today that its officers will don pink police vest patches for the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The awareness movement was started in 1985 by the American Cancer Society in cooperation with Imperial Chemical Industries (now part of AstraZeneca). The original goal was to promote regular mammograms as the single most effective method of preventing and fighting breast cancer.

The pink ribbon now associated with efforts to combat the disease was established in 1993 by Evelyn Lauder, Senior Corporate Vice President of Estée Lauder Companies, who founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
