ONCE WRONGLY CONVICTED MAN, PAUL HOUSE, PASSES AWAY
Paul House, a Tennessee man who spent 20 years on death row for a murder he did not commit, passed away on March 22, 2025, at the age of 63 due to complications from pneumonia and multiple sclerosis.
Convicted in 1986 for the killing of his neighbor Carolyn Muncey in Union County, Tennessee, House maintained his innocence throughout his appeals. In 2006, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that DNA evidence emerging years after his trial would have prevented his conviction, but he remained in prison until 2008 when an anonymous donor posted his bond.
After his release, House was placed under house arrest at his mother Joyce’s home in Crossville, Tennessee, until the charges were dropped in May 2009.
Following his exoneration, House lived with his mother in Crossville and became an advocate against the death penalty, working with groups like Witness to Innocence to share his story.
He spent his final 17 years free, enjoying time with his family until his death.
